146 Kentucky Derby

Authentic, with John Velazquez aboard, ran wire to wire to win the 146th Kentucky Derby. Bob Baffert wins his sixth Derby this one for Spendthrift Farm. Tiz The Law ran second, and Mr. Big News ran third. Congratulations to all the connections.

After attending more than 25 Kentucky Derby days, it is fair to say that no two are ever alike. If I have to say what remains the same, all Kentucky Derbies are magical, and the sun shines bright even in torrential rain. The first time I stepped on Churchill Downs racetrack in 1994, the hair on my neck tingled, and my thoughts we electrified. The history of thoroughbreds that had trod here their presence can be felt. From the years of record-breaking attendance to this year where the attendance seems a bit low, Churchill Downs management and staff have always been excellent for business and immensely gratifying to work with, getting to be one of many photographers around the racetrack verifies my passion and privilege to do what I love.
