Artist and activist Robert Morgan was born in Taylor County in 1950. His sculptures are constructed from found and recycled materials and are known for their rich social commentary. His striking and colorful pieces often resemble, or actually utilize, figures – such as dolls or figurines – to suggest ideas that are typically political and autobiographical.
His Pagan Babies collection, a name adopted by Morgan and his band of guerrilla-style street artists, was a natural moniker for this compilation, as it draws inspiration from art-house movies, Greek mythology, Ovid, Shakespeare, the decadence of Weimar Berlin, punk rock, the Pre-Raphaelites, David Bowie, and—above all—the expressive and ingenious realm of queer Kentucky.
