Constance Grayson is an artist based in Lexington, Kentucky who works at her studio, Studio 364. She is a self-taught artist who practices law in the “real” world. The juxtaposition of her left-brain legal work with her right-brain artistic side enables her in her creative process. She has exhibited at academic institutions in Kentucky, Georgia, Tennessee, New York and Arkansas and internationally in Spa, Belgium; Milan, Gubbio, Fabriano, and Foligno, Italy as well in New York, Georgia, Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky and Arkansas domestically. Her work is in the permanent collections of Christian Brothers University (Memphis, TN); the University of Kentucky (Lexington, KY); LeBonheur Hospital (Memphis, TN), UK Healthcare (Lexington, KY) and the Jessamine County Public Library (Nicholasville, KY) as well in numerous private collections.
About her textiles, Grayson writes:
“Although I continue to respect the more historic quilting tradition, through the years I have moved more and more toward using the traditional materials and techniques in combination with the fine art technique of collage. This combination of techniques has allowed me a large degree of artistic freedom in utilizing fabric and thread, together with found objects, in creating original work. My goal in creating this work is for the finished piece to “read” like a painting from a distance and to reveal its three-dimensionality upon closer inspection.”
