At the Monkey Temple near Kathmandu
This photo was shot near the Monkey Temple, or Swayambhunath. It is a very picturesque place where visitors and pilgrims walk up a hill to the main stupa. The stupa is on the western edge of Kathmandu, and is more than 2,500 years old, according to Insight Guides. It marks “the point where the legendary patriarch Manjushri discovered the lotus of the ancient valley lake.” It has been an important center of Buddhist learning for centuries. I loved being here. There is definitely some heavy damage from the earthquake(s). However, it remains a wonderful sight to see.
